Milestones are fast disappearing: some were removed or defaced in World War 2 so that German invading forces could not navigate around the country side using the stones. Many more have been demolished as roads have been widened, or have been damaged by grass-cutters, collision damage with vehicles or sadly through vandalism or theft.
The milestones on this page are now not listed in the Milestone Society's repository as they are no longer in situ and may have been stolen. Any further information would be welcomed.
